The primary advantage to cantilever racking is that it creates an open span on each storage level vs. selective racking where the span is limited by the beam length and frame location. The open span allows for the storage of longer items such as lumber, metals, piping, crates, heavy equipment, and other items where traditional racking is inefficient.
Cantilever racking is available in roll formed or structural steel and the best choice depends on the load requirements. It is highly customizable to suit the storage requirements and can be designed for very light loads or for very heavy-duty industrial applications. Specialized designs for specific applications are possible such as outdoor cantilever racking and cantilever rack supported buildings, can be engineered to suit.
The base components of Cantilever racking are the Columns, Arms, Bases, and Bracing. It can be designed as single sided (bases and arms only on one side) or double sided (common column with bases and arms on both sides).

Cantilever rack accessories can be used to suit the load:
- Decking or bar & rod grating
- End stops
- Reel saddles
Material is stored horizontally on the arms and the configuration provides easy access to the materials. The capacity and height of cantilever rack is dependent on the size and weight of materials stored, load dimensions, slab capacity, and material handling equipment limitations.
Specialized material handling equipment is available to handle long loads in multi-direction or side-load to reduce aisle requirements.
Cantilever racking is a space saving solution for:
- Steel storage
- Pipe storage
- Plywood & drywall storage
- Lumber storage
- Column & beam storage
- Bar stock storage
- Tubing storage
- Heavy duty
- High density
- Space saving
- Easily accessible
- Lower handling times
- Higher initial investment
- Large aisle requirements without specialized equipment
